Pastor Cliff will lead the congregation through an interim period as we discern and prepare ourselves for a search for a new Pastor. Cliff Houston was born in a small town in Southern Georgia. He received his BA from the University of Georgia with a major in communications, Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary/Wake Forest, NC (1984) and his Doctor of Ministry from Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA (1999). He completed 95 contact hours to complete a program on transitional ministry with the Interim Ministry Network in Baltimore, MD in 2013. He and his wife Karen moved to the Rochester, NY area in 1995. He has extensive experience as a pastor leading congregations in GA, England and Pittsford, NY and most recently as the Interim Minister at the First Baptist Church in Rochester, NY (2013-2015).
Ceciel Shaw began her career in NY. She studied teaching and learning at Teachers College, Columbia University while working at the Mary McDowell Friends School--a Quaker school for students labeled with learning disabilities. She’s using those educator skills to create programs for and with UCG’s children and families. She is committed to connecting children to social justice work, especially within our church community. Teaching peacemaking and ways to transform conflict are also key to her work. Her family provides inspiration for her church work. A lot of her day is spent playing cars, pushing swings, looking for missing toys, reading Star Wars and Sandra Boynton books, singing nursery rhymes and judging Lego building contests with her 7 year old, 4 ½ year old and almost 2 year old. Sometimes she squeezes in baking, reading (grown-up books) and yoga.
Meghan Link, is from Johnstown, Ohio. Her B.A. is in comparative religious studies from The Ohio State University, and she is currently in the process of getting her M.Div at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. Before serving at UCG she worked at Summit on 16th UMC in Columbus, Ohio. Meghan is passionate about inclusivity in the church as the body of Christ, especially around human sexuality. When she isn't at church or at school, she enjoys yoga, antiquing, hiking, and traveling with her partner, Logan.
