In addition to Youth Group, The United Church of Granville participates in PeaceJam (www.peacejam.org), a program for high school students that teaches peacemaking and conflict resolution in a service-learning context. Students have the opportunity to interact with a Nobel Peace Laureate at a regional conference. PeaceJam at UCG includes scripture studies about the call of Jesus to be peacemakers. Regardless of whether or not students currently attend UCG, all high school youth are welcome to participate in PeaceJam.
Recently, some of our PeaceJammers spent a Saturday in Kalamazoo, MI, learning about "Breaking the Cycle of Violence" and participating in a neighborhood peace rally. One of them summarized the experience this way: "Peace is not idealistic. It starts in one’s inner self, the home, communities, and branches out from there."
Baptist Youth Camp
Each summer our rising 7th-12th graders have the opportunity to participate in Baptist Youth Camp, an enriching week spent with friends from around the country. Our youth leader joins with leaders from other progressive churches to craft this week of fun and spiritual enrichment in the rolling hills of western North Carolina.
UCC Youth Camp and Activities
Throughout the year, middle and high school students are able to participate in regional retreats organized by the Central Southeast Ohio Association of the United Church of Christ.
