Walk With Us

Historic Church, Progressive People

We know our reputation.

For over two hundred years, The United Church of Granville has pushed boundaries and been prophetic in ways that have disrupted the status quo.

Peace and justice organizations have been born in this place. Abolitionists were members of our congregation. We celebrated PRIDE back in the 1990s when most churches didn’t.

And, although the costs have occasionally been steep, we have–and continue to be–uncompromising in our faith and values.

You’ll find us:

registering voters,
protesting in city squares,
running for local government, and so, so much more.

We believe in a faith that seeks, hope that transforms, and love that works. So, while people have referred to us as ‘that’ church (the weird, progressive, unconventional, activist, castle-church), we continue to work, because they’re right: we’re proud to be ‘that’ church. Welcome to the United Church of Granville, where we mean it when
we say:

all are welcome here.

Words our members use to describe UCG:

Friendly + Growing + Holy + Peaceful + Kind + Hopeful + Loving + Safe + Accepting + Communal + Wise + Creative + Like Home + Revitalizing + Generative + Courageous + Collaborative + Playful + Challenging + Serving + Discerning + Empowering + Hopeful

I walked into UCG one Sunday because of curiosity. I stayed because of the community. I resonate with the statement, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.” That is UCG. This is a warm, welcoming community made up of people who try to live their lives informed by their beliefs. They look for the lessons to be learned from the scriptures, they think, and they question. They welcomed me and they continue to challenge me to be my better self.

I come to UCG because I find solace in being around like-minded people. It's a place for me to recharge and think about how I can be a better community member in the week ahead. UCG gives ample opportunities to serve either at church or in our surrounding communities - I like being active in making the world around me a little better. I also come to see friends and share my love of music.

I moved from Columbus to Licking County in 2019 and stayed involved with my church there through 2020. But then I knew I wanted to find a faith community and spiritual home nearby. Before ever even attending a service at UCG, I met a few folx from the church at the first ever Granville Pride in 2021. It was at that point that I knew this is where I belonged. I love the way UCG shows up for each other and for the community and I want to be a part of it!
